IGC 2015 – Day 6: The Best Redemption Night

     Saturday, March 28th, 2015 was the best moment in IGC 2015. This fifth day, the winner of IGC 2015 will be announced. The day was started by having breakfast at 6.00 am, then all participants prepared their poster to display in exhibition session and to present to the judges. This agenda last from 7.30 am to 7.15 pm. Presentation session held at Taman Eden 2 Hotel, Kaliurang an divided into 3 sessions with professional judges: Mr.Peter Butterworth from British Petrleum, Mr.Irfan Cibaj from Total Indonesia, and Mr.Agus Budi from IAGI.

     The first session started at 9.15 am to 12.45 pm, then at 1.30 pm to 3.50 pm for second session, and at 4.00 pm to 5.45 pm or the last session. All participants tried to give their best, like their dress, they wore a suit and also batik. When a team deliver their presentation, the others stay near their poster or walking around to see the other poster.

     After the presentation session finished, there were 45 minutes rest before the next agenda, Gala Dinner, which as prepared by the committee. Then, the main event came, it’s announcement of the winner pf IGC 2015. Before that, there were some performance showed by Geological Engineering Universitas Gadjah Mada’s students, like pantomime, traditional dances (Zapin dance, Terang Bulan dance from West Java, Saman dance, and Sajojo dance), and also a song delivered by ITB team. After that, HMTG team showed their ability with singing some dangdut songs, a kind of Indonesian music. All participants and committee blended into one, dancing together in front of the stage, till suddenly the great atmosphere changed when we arrived on the announcement session. And results are :

     The touching moment happened when the winner of IGC 2015, Chulalongkorn University’s team deliver their impression during IGC 2015. They were very impressed with the city, Jogjakarta, and all committee and other participants. They were also not think to be a winner. Photo session closed the fifth day of IGC 2015. So, congratulation to ITB team for winning the best poster, to Univeritas Padjajaran team for winning the best presentation. Also, congratulation and celebration for our first, second and third winner of International Geomapping Competition 2015 : Chulalongkorn University, Universitas Gadjah Mada and Universitas Diponegoro team!!

     Tomorrow, all participants will join the fun trip, called lava tour, before return back to their city with the sweet memories during the IGC 2015.

IGC 2015 – Day 5: A Hard Day’s Night

     Finally, three-day fieldwork of International Geomapping Competition 2015 in Southern Mountain has been done. Today was the 4th day of International Geomapping Competition 2015 and become the last day for all of participants to completed and processed all of data they’ve taken from the field. Before started this hard day, all participants had breakfast on 06. 00 am. After that, they started to make a field report from 07.00 am to 11.00 pm. When they were making report, each team accompanied by their LO who’s always ready to help them if needed. Committees were also tried their best to provide all participant’s necessity such as stationery, laptop, printer, etc.

     Beside had a coffeebreak and snack, participants and committees together had a lunch at 12.00 am. Then, they continued to preparing their report until 06.00 pm. The next agenda was having dinner for about 30 minutes and the report making session continued again until 11.00 pm. All of the agenda ended on 11.00 pm which was also the final time of the participant to complete their report. After that, they were allowed to take a rest. Keep spirit! The next day, would be held poster exhibition and presentation. Keep do your best, and be the best among the best!

IGC 2015 – Day 4: Goodbye, Magnificent Fields!

     The fieldwork of International Geomapping Competition 2015 was finally over. All participants had to do geological mapping on their third day of fieldwork on March 26th, 2015. That day was the last chance for them to collect data as many as possible. The data will be used to make poster and report.

     As the previous days, all participants did some briefing and preparation before went to the field. Each participants went to the starting point to inform their departure time. They also had a pray before they left their basecamp for the safety and luck. The participants were ready to give everything for this final day of fieldwork. They had to make sure that there wasn’t any missed data for their poster and report.

     The last day of fieldwork was started at 07.00 AM. From the starting point, they began to have tracking and collect data in the field. It looked like all participants had covered their mapping area. The heat of weather didn’t affect their spirit to go forward and aim to be the winner. The atmosphere of this competition was about to rise higher and became more interesting.

     Today, the participants came back earlier than usual. They had to save their energy before they went all out on the poster and report making. At 04.00 PM, all participants finished their last fieldwork and went back to Taman Eden, Yogyakarta. In that place, the participants will be more serious to win this competition.
